The UAE attracts applicants from all over the world, so a single job posting in Dubai or Abu Dhabi can receive hundreds of CVs. Recruiters scan quickly. Your CV needs to show in the first few seconds that you fit the role and can actually start.
Length and layout
- Two pages for most professionals; one page for students and graduates.
- A clean, single-column layout that applicant tracking systems can read. Fancy designs often fail; see how to write an ATS-friendly CV.
- English is the working language for most private-sector roles. Arabic is a strong plus for client-facing and government-related roles.
Personal details UAE employers often want
- Location: "Dubai, UAE" or "Currently in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia, willing to relocate to Dubai".
- Visa status: for example "UAE residence visa, employment", "Golden Visa holder", "Spouse visa", or "Requires employment visa". Recruiters often filter on this, because candidates already in the UAE can usually join faster. Read more in should you put your visa status on your CV.
- Nationality: many recruiters ask for it, partly because of Emiratisation targets in some sectors.
- Notice period or availability.
- UAE driving licence, if relevant to the role.
- Languages with honest levels.
A photo is still common in the UAE but is usually optional. If you add one, use a professional headshot with a plain background. Leave out religion, marital status and date of birth unless asked.
Profile and key skills
Start with a short profile that names your target role and your strongest evidence. Then add a short skills section with the exact tools, systems and certifications the posting asks for, but make sure each one also appears in your experience with an example.
Experience that recruiters trust
- Newest role first, with title, company, city, country and dates (month and year).
- Show results: revenue, cost savings, project size, team size, customer satisfaction, uptime.
- Make GCC experience easy to see. If you have none, highlight international experience and anything that shows you adapt quickly: multicultural teams, international clients, relocation.
Tailor every application
UAE recruiters search their systems by keywords from the job posting. Use the same terms the posting uses when they honestly describe your work. A tailored CV for each role will outperform one generic CV every time.
Common mistakes
- Sending the same CV to every job.
- No visa status or location, which forces the recruiter to guess.
- Long paragraphs instead of short bullet points with results.
- Five or more pages for a mid-level role.
