Not every employer in the Gulf reads cover letters, but many recruiters do, especially for professional, managerial and client-facing roles. A good cover letter answers the questions your CV cannot: why this role, why this company, and why you are a safe hire, including when you can start.
Keep it short. Three or four paragraphs, under 300 words, is enough.
The structure
- Opening: the role you are applying for, where you saw it, and one sentence that shows you fit.
- Evidence: two or three achievements that match the job's main requirements, with numbers.
- Practical details: location, visa or iqama status, notice period. Recruiters in the Gulf often need this to move you forward.
- Close: a polite, confident request for an interview.
Tone
Professional and respectful, but not stiff. Avoid exaggerated claims and long lists of adjectives. Address the hiring manager by name if the posting gives one; otherwise "Dear Hiring Manager" is fine.
Example
Dear Hiring Manager,
I am applying for the IT Infrastructure Manager role at Al Noor Facilities, advertised on Bayt. With nine years of IT leadership in Saudi facility management companies, I have run the kind of multi-site network and Microsoft 365 environment your posting describes.
In my current role I support three group companies and around 400 users. I redesigned our FortiGate and Cisco network, which cut unplanned downtime by 35%, and moved our email and file storage to Microsoft 365 with zero data loss. I also introduced an ITIL-based service desk that raised SLA compliance from 82% to 97%.
I am based in Riyadh with a valid, transferable iqama and a 30-day notice period. I hold CCNA and ITIL Foundation certifications.
I would welcome the chance to discuss how I can support your operations. Thank you for your time and consideration.
Kind regards, Ahmed Khan +966 5X XXX XXXX · [email protected]
Mistakes to avoid
- Repeating your CV line by line.
- Generic letters with the wrong company name. Always double-check names before sending.
- Very long letters. Recruiters skim.
