How to write a CV for jobs in Saudi Arabia: length, personal details, iqama and nationality, Saudization, certifications and the mistakes that cost interviews.

Saudi Arabia is one of the busiest job markets in the region, with large hiring in construction, healthcare, IT, energy, tourism and facility management. Employers and agencies receive many applications for each role, so a clear CV that answers their first questions quickly has a real advantage.

This guide covers what is usual in Saudi Arabia. Always follow the instructions in the job posting if they differ.

Length and layout

  • Two pages is the norm for experienced candidates; one page is fine for graduates. Senior roles can go to three pages if every line is relevant.
  • Use a clean, single-column layout that applicant tracking systems can read. See how to write an ATS-friendly CV.
  • English is standard for most private-sector roles. Some government and semi-government roles may ask for Arabic as well.

Personal details employers often look for

Saudi employers often screen on details that a European CV would leave out. Include the ones that help your application:

  • Nationality. Many roles are affected by Saudization rules, so employers often want to know this early.
  • Current location. Inside Saudi Arabia (city) or abroad (country). Candidates already in the Kingdom can often start sooner.
  • Iqama status if you live in Saudi Arabia: for example "Valid iqama, transferable". A transferable iqama can make you easier to hire. Read should you put your iqama and visa status on your CV.
  • Notice period: "Available immediately" or "30 days' notice".
  • Driving licence: "Saudi driving licence" if you have one and the role involves travel.
  • Languages: English and Arabic levels, honestly stated.

A photo is common in the region but usually optional. Date of birth, marital status and religion are not needed and are best left out unless the employer asks.

Professional profile

Open with three or four lines that state who you are, your years of experience, your main area and the value you bring. For example:

"IT infrastructure manager with 9 years in Saudi Arabia, leading network, Microsoft 365 and security for multi-site facility management companies. Cut downtime by 35% through a FortiGate and Cisco redesign."

Experience

  • List roles newest first, with job title, company, city, country and dates.
  • Mention Saudi or GCC experience clearly; employers value local knowledge of regulations, clients and working culture.
  • Use bullet points with results and numbers, not duties alone.
  • If you worked on well-known projects or with major clients, name them where you are allowed to.

Certifications and professional registration

Many roles in Saudi Arabia require professional registration or accredited qualifications. Examples:

  • Engineering: membership of the Saudi Council of Engineers is often required.
  • Healthcare: classification and licensing with the Saudi Commission for Health Specialties.
  • IT and project management: certifications such as CCNA, Microsoft, ITIL, PMP or security certificates are widely requested.

State your registration number or status if you have one, and the expected date if it is in progress. Degree attestation or equivalency is also commonly required for many roles, so mention it if yours is done.

Common mistakes

  • Generic CVs sent to every role. Saudi recruiters can tell. Tailor the profile and top skills to each job; see how to tailor your CV to a job description.
  • Missing dates or unexplained gaps.
  • Contact details that do not work internationally. Include the country code on your phone number and a professional email.
  • Claiming skills or certificates you cannot prove.
